High Point Tops Towson For Program’s First Win Ever

High Point University surprised some people last week when they dropped a competitive 12-10 game to Delaware, and they surprised some more when the Panthers knocked off visiting Towson on Friday afternoon, 9-7. Dan Lomas continued to put up points, and led HPU with four goals. It’s already a breakout season for High Point, and Lomas is looking like an early AA selection!

Most first year programs struggle to win games, and knocking off a long-established program like Towson is a big accomplishment for any “new” program. Of course, High Point isn’t exactly new, as the team has been preparing, scrimmaging, and stocking its roster, for more than just a year. Still, to put it all together and actually win is no small feat, and I love seeing an instantly competitive program join the ranks of D1.

Like the Delaware game, the Towson game was tight, and both teams were in it near the end, but when Towson closed the lead to one goal late in the fourth, the Panthers’ Jamie Piluso won a face off and scored to seal the win for High Point. Freshman scoring big goals? Love it. Austin Geisler had 11 saves for the win in goal. Cory Dobyns put up four goals for Towson and Andre Wacavage has 12 saves in the loss.

Thanks to High Point for sending over the photos and putting together the video. Clearly this is a D1 program doing it right on, and off, the field!
