Alphabetical 2013 NCAA D1 Preview: Bellarmine

Our Alphabetical 2013 NCAA D1 Previews are going down in the best kind of way, and we’ve covered three teams so far. Let’s make it four! We move another spot down the list to Bellarmine, the team in maroon and grey, located in Louisville, KY.

In 2012 the Knights went 4-8, and their worst losses were to OSU by a 13-2 score, and then Denver by a 12-6 score. For the most part, Bellarmine was very competitive and 4 of their losses were by 3 goals or less. One of those was a 11-8 loss to Loyola and another was a one goal game with Fairfield. Bellarmine beat Mercer, Detroit, Michigan, and Dartmouth for their four wins.

Michigan vs. Bellarmine Lacrosse Game 47

In 2013, Bellarmine faces their ECAC opponents, as well as Robert Morris, High Point, Detroit, Mercer, Virginia, Marquette, and Penn, which should improve their SOS to a certain extent. If Bellarmine wants to make waves they will need to do well in conference and win all of their OOC games, with the exception of Virginia, although a win there would be really helpful.

Bellarmine has one of the most diverse rosters in all of D1 lacrosse. They players from all over Canada, the East Coast and many of the newer lacrosse areas, like Tennessee, Kentucky and Missouri. Bellarmine will look to Senior Mike Ward (#15, above), last year’s leading scorer, to produce points but will need guys like Cameron Gardner and Lance Robinson to step up now that Colton Clark and Austin Bright are gone.

Dillon Ward is back for another year in between the pipes and will be wearing #45 instead of #53 this year, and Bellarmine should once again be solid defensively. The question is can their offense pump in enough goals to help them climb the ladder of D1 lacrosse, and in a tough conference?
