An LAS LaXmas – NYC Style

The long Christmas weekend was sweet, and while some traveled across the country/world to be with their loved ones, I made the harrowing 20 minute journey from Brooklyn to Manhattan.  The girlfriend’s parents came to good ol’ NYC for a little Xmas in the City and, as usual, a good time was had by all.  We stayed in an unreal apartment, did a lot of fun stuff and I only managed to talk about lax 14% of the time.  A new record low!  And its simply not something I’m proud of.

The apartment was sweet. so sweet that a cow had to give up its skin.

Inside was really nice but the view from the deck? even better.

You know what else provides a pretty nice image?  The dye job that Max McCool did on Lacrosse Playground, that’s what.  The dye technique isn’t that fancy… even 412 could do it… but the stickers and end result are excellent.  There is also a contest where you can win one of the 2 heads below.

All I wanna do is... and take your money.

We also managed to go out a bit and had a great meal at Blue Smoke where we got to enjoy a Jazz Band led by a small Colombian man with a faux hawk who wore a yellow t-shirt, plaid pants and played the harp.  Yes, I’m 100% serious.  We also went out and saw Sherlock Holmes and it was everything you would expect from Robert Downey Jr playing a brilliant drinker.  Perfection.  Reminded me of a cleaned up Jack Sparrow but whatever, it was entertaining and therefore well worth it.

Just touched down in London town, gotta run & get me a Starbucks now.

Jude Law was pretty good as the more straight-laced Dr. Watson.  In my opinion, JL is always much better in supporting roles and thankfully they didn’t ask him to actually act or anything.  He’s like the Kevin Huntley of acting:  Put him in the right system and he will absolutely thrive.  Rely on him too much and prepare to be a little disappointed.  Rachel McAdams was very good as well as Downey’s nemesis of the heart and proves she’ll be a Hollywood force to be reckoned with for years.  412 may have even found a new lady to end his posts with!

I also went back to Morimoto on 10th Ave between 15th and 16th and I love the decor, food and friendly service.  Nothing better than going out for an attempt at a classy night with a bunch of people from Wesleyan.

Minnesota is cold.  And in the winter they get a lot of snow and it rarely melts until spring time.  So if you don’t have a dome or indoor place to practice you end up with playing conditions like this:

I love lax and all but that looks brutal.

I saw the following photo on Twitter and had to re-post it…  I don’t know who did this, or how they did it or even if its for realzies… but I personally think it looks awesome.  The future… is now.  And its made out of metal.  Or covered in chrome.  My guess is the latter but the potential is still there for some “Ouchies”.

Put it on a chain and wear it on yo' neck!

On New Year’s Day I’m headed to the Mayor of NYC’s inauguration.  Should be interesting!  Then on the 2nd I head down to Puerto Rico to visit the family.  I don’t want to check a bag but DO want to bring 2 lacrosse sticks down to the family compound.  Any ideas for how one might accomplish that?  Does anyone else remember when you used to be allowed to bring lax sticks on flights as carry on items?  I miss those simpler times…

PR, I love you.

Con Bro Chill has decided that “Ripping Top Cheddar” should now be called “Ripping Top Schetti”.  Meh.  In order for me to get down with the new slang, it has to be original and not just a shortened version of a pre-existing slang term.  From the man who created Flowseiden, we simply expect better.
