Music Monday: St. Patty’s Day Edition

Editor’s Note: Please welcome Nate Fritts to the Lacrosse All Stars! After spending a lot of time with Nate on the Rhino Lacrosse Camp Tour a couple summers back, we quickly came to respect his passion for all things music and immediately knew he would be our man for Music Monday. Nate hales from Portland, Oregon, played at Bowdoin College (NESCAC) in Maine, and now resides in Boston, MA where he researches concussions and brain diseases when he’s not laxing.

St. Patrick’s Day has come and gone, the streets here in Boston are still in shambles, and we hope that you had a merry, craic filled weekend. Although a day late, this edition of Music Monday should be a nice follow up to one of the best holidays of the year. It is only appropriate that we post some jams to help everyone get through this slow start to the week. Cheers!

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – “Irish Celebration”

This Northwest duo continues to kill everything they release. There isn’t much more that needs to be said about this team – Ryan Lewis stitches together another beautiful track and Mackelmore does his thing with words, weaving in just enough conscience and swag. I particularly like how Mackelmore works in some general Irish history to back up the proud nature of this song. Whether you’re Irish or just trying to keep the St. Patty’s dream alive this week, “Irish Celebration” should keep you feeling lifted through the week. See Music Monday: A Super Playlist for more from these two.

Frank Turner – “Recovery”

I don’t think there was a more obvious choice, given the theme of today’s Music Monday, than this new song by Frank Turner. I only recently discovered this English punk rocker who’s gone solo into his own creative realm, but most of what I’ve heard thus far has been great. Although Turner is English, “Recovery” still seemed like a great song to help you get over Guinness day and return to the real world. If you like this song and want to hear more of Turner’s traditional/folky side, go listen to “Wessex Boy” or “If Ever I Stray” from his England Keep My Bones (2011).
