Video: High Point Beats St. Joseph’s 9-7

High Point suffered two road losses to Delaware (10-3) and Towson (11-8) but got back on track this past weekend with a home opener win over St. Joseph’s. The Panthers won the game 9-7 over the visiting Hawks after going up 5-1 in the second quarter, and taking a 6-3 lead into halftime.

Bucky Smith led the way for High Point with three goals and a helper, while Dan Lomas had 2 goals and a helper of his own. Matt Thistle also scored a timely goal, and he assisted on two other important markers, with all three of his points coming on High Point’s last four goals of the game, when St. Joseph’s was challenging their lead.

Michael Rastivo was efficient for St. Joe’s as he notched three goals on four shots. Ryan McGee had two goals and an assist and Mike Dougherty dropped three helpers from the midfield.

Chris Davilla won 9 of 16 face offs for High Point, and the teams split the game’s 18 face offs evenly. Austin Geisler was solid net for the Panthers (as he usually is), making 12 big saves, with 8 of them coming in the second half. TJ Jones did well in net for SJU, making 9 saves, but it wasn’t enough as both teams put 26 shots up in the game. St. Joseph’s really struggled on the man up as well, and converted on none of their 7 chances.

HPU plays at Sacred Heart on Feb 22nd, and St. Joseph’s travels to play at VMI on the same day for their next contest. HPU is now 1-2, while SJU is 0-1.
