VIDEO: Six Nations Chiefs Are Mann Cup Champions!

The Six Nations Chiefs defeated the Victoria Shamrocks in Game 6 of the 2013 Mann Cup to claim the championship, and the Chiefs now hold the mantle as Canada’s best Senior Lacrosse team. Six Nations was down early in the series, 2 games to 1, but took the next three games in a row to knock off the Shamrocks on Victoria’s home floor. This is Six Nations’ first Mann Cup championship since 1996, and they had been building towards a run like this for a couple of years.

Game 5 was a pretty crazy affair, with both of Six Nations’ goalies being ejected for illegal equipment. Colin Doyle (yes, offensive star Colin Doyle) stepped in between the pipes, and the Chiefs held on for the win. It’s a storyline few will forget. Game 6 promised another intense affair, and it definitely delivered.

After one period, we were knotted at two goal apiece. Six Nations opened things up with the first two goals, and Cory Conway followed with two for Victoria. The second period saw Six Nations once again score the first two goals, and they took a 4-2 lead 9 minutes in. At this point in the game, Cody Jamieson had a goal and three assists, and if you can do basic math, you know he was involved in every Chiefs goal.

Victoria then went on a run to close out the second period, scoring three straight goals over a five and a half minute span, to pull ahead 5-4, heading into the crucial third period. Like the first two periods, Six Nations came out and scored the first two goals of the period to retake the lead at 6-5. Unfortunately for Victoria, the momentum didn’t switch again, and Six Nations popped in two more goals to take an 8-5 lead, and all but secure the win.

Cody Jamieson was involved in only 3 of the 4 goals Six Nations scored in the third period, finishing with 3 goals on 6 shots, 4 assists, and seven points. In case you were wondering, Jamieson was also named MVP of the game, and series. It’s well deserved, and have not seen a guy be that consistently dominant in a very long time. Jamieson played hard, scored a LOT, and took a ton of abuse (while dishing out more than his fair share), but always seemed pretty composed, and hungry.

Colin Doyle had a goal and three assists and Stephen Keough had a goal and two assists. Brandon Miller made 40 saves on 45 shots. Craig Point went 7-10 on face offs. The Six Nations defense? No question about it, they played really well, and were tough all series long. Jamieson may have been the star of the show, but it had to be a true team effort for the Chiefs to take the title…

Congratulations to Six Nations on their Mann Cup Championship!
