Duch vs Grant: Which Shot is Goal of the Year?

Rhys Duch and the Washington Stealth hosted the Toronto Rock on Friday night in an attempt to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Stealth lost 16-13, but Duch contributed ten points (4g, 6a), one of which was absolutely absurd:

The Washington Stealth uploaded the goal to YouTube, and they confidently titled it “Rhys Duch Goal of the Year.” Of course the Stealth have to support their guy, but wait a second, goal of the year? My immediate reaction was to break out the old Kanye West “Imma let you finish” bit. It’s only been a month, have we already forgotten John Grant Jr’s shot?

I watched the goals about a dozen times each, and now I don’t know what to think. Has Duch scored the goal of the year? Let’s break it down:

Grant starts things off with a solid swim dodge, but Duch Randy Mosses that pass like it’s no big deal (and by the way, can we talk about that pass for a second? Why would you even attempt that? At what point did he look to be even the slightest bit open? Sheesh.). Point Duch.

On the other hand, judges always award fewer points if some other guy already did the same trick, and Junior beat him to the punch. The ”I can’t believe I just saw that” point goes to John Grant, Jr.

After we all take a moment to appreciate the fact that we’re debating who had the best one-handed behind the back goal of the past month, let’s settle it: does the Rhys Duch goal deserve the title “Goal of the Year?” You be the judge.
