Air Force Takes Down High Point 14-4

On Friday, Air Force lost to UNC 16-8, while High Point beat Towson 9-7, for their first ever win in program history. On Sunday, AFA and HPU met up for a quick turnaround game, with little prep time, and the Falcons emerged with a 14-4 victory on the road.

High Point head coach, John Torpey said, “Air Force is a really solid, well-coached team. They won every facet of the game from ground balls to time of possession. I thought we came out with a lot of energy but didn’t execute well. We will spend the week practicing and getting ready for a very good St. Joseph’s team.

A bright spot for High Point was holding Air Force to 2 of 9 extra man, but a low point was the nine penalties, and going 0-6 on man up themselves. Dam Lomas notched a goal to keep his scoring streak going, but Air Force did a great of focusing on him, and Lomas was limited to only two shots all game. Matt Thistle had a goal and two assists. Air Force was led by Mike Crampton and Tommy McKee, who each registered four goals. Erik Smith had two goals and two assists, and Keith Dryer notched three assists in the game.

Air Force opened up a 6-1 lead in the first half, and kept a 6-2 margin heading into the half. Smith opened the game with two straight goals, and Cramptom mimicked that output at the beginning of the 3rd quarter, putting AFA up 8-2. HPU got to 8-4, and then Air Force finished off the game on a 6 goal run, creating the final 14-4 score in favor of the Falcons.

Jamie Piluso went 11-18 at the face off X and HPU won that category by going 12 for 22. Air Force outshot High Point 47-27, and more than doubled up the Panthers in shots on cage at 33-14. AFA also edged HPU in GBs, 44-41. Austin Geisler had 19 saves for High Point, while Austin Fox had 9 for the Falcons in the win. Both goalies were substituted out with 4:26 left in the game.

High Point takes on St. Joseph’s (0-1, 14-1 loss to Lehigh) next out of the Colonial Conference, at Woodberry Forest High School, in Virginia. Air Force faces a Big East foe, in Rutgers (1-0, with a 15-6 win over Manhattan).
