The Best 9

Good morning, and happy Monday, ladies and gentlemen!

At the beginning of the December, I explained that this month was to the new year, as the last bit of pregame is to game time. It’s during this period that I make sure I am ready to go full speed when the first whistle blows. It’s at this point that I’m getting some extra stretching in; some extra visualization in; clearing my head of anything that does not relate to me performing at my best; giving thanks (and preparing to give thanks, through my play) for another opportunity to do something I enjoy! Moving into the new year is similar in that we are looking forward, and preparing to be at our best when the new year arrives. But in looking forward it’s important that we don’t overlook one thing – NOW.

Including today, we still have 9 days left in 2013. And while 9 days may not be the best case scenario to accomplish things that we’d planned to accomplish over the course of the year, it’s still a very significant. There are three things in life that we can never take back. A word after it’s spoken, an opportunity after it’s missed, and time after it’s passed. Who among us can afford to throw away time? And in doing so, it’s highly possible that we are setting ourselves up for missed opportunities in the moment, or in the future.

By no means am I suggesting that we spend every minute of our day (or every day of the year) plowing through life. Down time, vacation, relaxation, recharging are all very important, and are wise uses of our time. But it’s time that is being used rather than wasted, or discarded as worthless. Truth is every moment is invaluable, including these last few days.

We may not be able to get back the time that has passed over the last 356 days. But there are an infinite number of ways to spend the next 9. Here are 9 (one for each day), to get you started.

  1. Catch up with a friend(s) that you’ve not seen or spoken to in a while.
  2. Lay the groundwork for a project that you want to flourish in the coming weeks/months/year.
  3. Volunteer your time and efforts to help those in need.
  4. Clean and organize your house/car.
  5. Clean and organize your life/phone contacts/social media accounts (some things/people need to go!)
  6. Take time for yourself that you normally don’t take.
  7. Read/Finish that book that’s been on your to read list all year (or longer).
  8. Check in on a family member.
  9. Set your goals and plan of achievement, for the new year.

Make it a GREAT day and a GREAT week!

Stay blessed.
