Buzz About The New Lacrosse Movie “Warrior”

In my hunt for compelling news in lacrosse, I started getting a couple hits on a rumored new lacrosse movie coming out called “Warrior” that stars two of the stars from the teenybopper sensation “Twilight”. The lacrosse forums are buzzing over the news but I have some thoughts…

First, here is the synopsis of the film on IMDB.com:

In shock and denial over his Marine father’s death in battle, star Lacrosse player Conor Sullivan, always a maverick and a hothead, starts acting out in self-destructive ways that have his mom, Claire, at her wit’s end. But arduous training in a wilderness Lacrosse camp under the tutelage of his dad’s old combat buddy, Sgt. Major Duke Wayne, opens Conor’s eyes to the true meaning of maturity, sportsmanship and manhood

Now, there are so many things going on in my head with this, but I am going to limit it to a couple of thoughts:

First, is it real?  The trailer on youtube is by far unacceptable.  However, the author has apparently backed it up saying that it is a cobbled together trailer, but they actually are producing and filming it.  There are even some pictures floating around of Kellan Lutz himself sporting the honorable garb.  It sounds like it is going to be an indie film, but you never know who might hop on board.  The acting cast looks like it could make some noise too.

Now second, will it be any good?  While lacrosse is certainly making headlines these days, there is a serious lack of lax promotion in Hollywood.  Sure we’re all familiar with the quick lax drop in the oh-so-popular American Pie, but anyone who really knows lax was surely disappointed with the pretty boy perspective they gave it.  This new flick looks like it might have quite a bit of potential to be something primal and emotional, but it could go south with all of the teen dream actors.  Here is an interview with them, but it seems pretty slanted toward the twilight crowd.  They sure as hell better not be marketing this to teeny bopper girls.

Here’s for hoping they do our great sport justice, and it starts catching on in an even bigger way…

Mr. Blue says:

The whole film reeks of the “lax bro” elitest sterotype that we discussed on a past podcast with GMODT.  Check that out here. Also, the title is ridiculously confusing considering “Warrior” is one of the top lax equipment suppliers.  Can this be a coincidence or are they just trying to piss me off?
