Dominican University and Mesa State recently did the lacrosse tango at Dominican. The Penguins of DU took the victory in a hard-fought 11-6 game. Dominican was up 7-2 at the half but Mesa never caved in and kept fighting, keeping pace in the second half as both teams put up 4 goals in the last two frames.
The Penguins were outshot 36-32 but dominated the ground ball war, taking that battle 29 to 18. GBs win games! Ryan Williams picking up 14 saves in net for Dominican also made a big difference, as Mesa State got all but 12 of their shots on goal for the game. Mesa State is still winless so far in 2011 but they’ve had some good games and been competitive overall. Dominican has two wins so far in 2011, with their other W coming over Adams State to open up the season.
Out of all the College teams out there, the Western D2 NCAA teams seem the most willing to go with outrageous, or at least cutting edge, uniforms. The Dominican helmets are just unreal and the whole Mesa State kit is something special.
D2 NCAA lax, on the West Coast (and down South), is where NCAA growth will continue to happen at a rapid rate. For a division that some thought was going the way of the Dodo, this is truly great to see!

Congrats to Dominican on their second win of the season! And good luck to both teams moving forward! We love seeing NCAA lax (well, any lax actually!) being played outside of hotbed areas and these two teams are perfect examples of all the growth our sport is enjoying right now. To the players, coaches and administrations that are supporting these teams and making them click: Keep up the great work!
