Lacrosse Championships ’09: From Beantown to Mile High

For lacrosse players and fans there is no such thing as too much lacrosse. Whether you’re a player who has spent countless summers at camps or on club teams or just a casual fan… the early summer is our time to shine.

Plan accordingly fans because Denver, CO and Foxborough, MA, are two cities that you’d better get to know fast.

This Memorial Day weekend, the NCAA lacrosse Final Four returns to Foxborough, Mass and for 3 days the entire lacrosse community descends upon Patriot Place for the biggest lacrosse event on the planet. If you’ve never attended the final four in person you need to do so ASAP. I’ve been to the final four the last seven years and it keeps getting better every year.

Although Foxborough is no Baltimore (the inner harbor atmosphere is hard to top), Gillette Stadium is a world-class venue with endless parking lots that provide a great tailgate experience/party.

Meanwhile, inside the stadium the world’s best faceoff occurs in a jam-packed five game schedule that features two Division I games on Saturday, the underrated DIII and DII finals Sunday, and the DI final on Memorial Day. Personally I think the past few years’ Salisbury/Cortland matchups have been the best part of the weekend, but I could be partial. Whether you’re a ‘Cuse fan, a Hop fan, or just a fan of the game, you can’t go wrong by being at Gillette.

So if you live on the East Coast, I recommend making the trek up to Boston, if your out on the left coast then get some airline miles and hop a plane to Providence (PVD is way cheaper/less stressful than Logan).

Have no fear if you can’t make the pilgrimage; the worldwide leader in sports has got you covered in full HD glory. (Like we recently discussed in The Mr. BS Report, nothing beats lacrosse and hockey in HD, besides Tiger…err I mean golf…on Sundays)

For those of you a little too far from Foxborough, the hottest lax destination this summer west of the Mississippi is Denver, CO.

Not only does the MLL All-Star game return to Invesco Field at Mile High on July 16th, the MCLA National Tournament takes over Denver a month before as it makes its way to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, May 12-16. For those of you unfamiliar with the MCLA National Tournament, it features the top 16 teams from across the country in a weeklong battle royale for the national title. Last year the MCLA tournament was held under the hole in the roof at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, that’s a tough act to follow but this year’s tournament is sure to up the ante on lacrosse at the MCLA level.

This summer is sure to not disappoint. If you’re able to make it to Boston, Denver, or any lacrosse games for that matter, then you’re sure to be having a great summer.
