Syracuse Tops Siena: Stats, Staats, and Highlights

Syracuse took down visiting Siena 19-7 last night in the opener for both teams. If you have Time Warner Cable, you may have caught the game on TV. If you have Cablevision, or live outside of the Northeast, you probably didn’t see the game. Thankfully Cuse has highlights up already!

Dylan Donahue had 8 goals and an assist for 9 points. Kevin Rice had 8 assists. Randy Staats had a goal and two assists in his Cuse debut, and Dylan Maltz had a goal and a helper. Derek Maltz, Billy Ward, Matt Walters, Scott Loy, Jordan Evans, Hakeem Lecky, Matt Harris, Nick Weston, and Henry Schoonmaker all had single goals for the Orange. Cuse was 4-6 on the man up.

Did we see Tewaaraton talk pop up for any of these guys? I’m telling you, NATIONALLY televised games are key for that award and the hype you need to win it.

Richie Hurley led the way for Siena with four goals, and Conor Prunty, Rob Hunter, and Thomas Schoener all added goals. Siena only went 1-4 on man up chances.

Syracuse won 15 of 28 face offs, and Siena had three face off violations in the first quarter. Chris Daddio led the way going 10-17 on his draw attempts, and picking up 6 ground balls.

If you saw this game on TV, you’ll also get to see Albany vs Syracuse on February 16th. Why that game isn’t on ESPN (not ESPNU, but ESPN) is beyond me. It should be epic. Find a friend who has TWC, and watch that game. You won’t regret it. That’s a promise.

If you don’t know who Randy Staats is, check out the video below from last year’s NJCAA Championship game. Staats is #45 for OCC (in white). He’s a guy to remember and will generate some highlight reel goals over the next two years.
