Stress Is A Choice

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen!

I hear from people all the time that they are “a little stressed out.” I also hear from people that “we all get stressed” sometimes. I wholeheartedly disagree. Stress, like many other things in life, is a choice. I, personally, do not allow myself to use the word stress in describing myself, my mental or my physical state of being. In fact, if I’m not discussing the fact that I don’t believe in stress, or I’m referring to “making a point,” I don’t really even use the word. You would be amazed at how much less “stressed” you are when you eliminate the word from your vocabulary.

Having said that, we do all go through times of discord; times when our lives are a little hectic or chaotic. We all deal with those times differently. What I’ve found when I speak to friends that are going through such times, however, is that usually it starts small and builds into something big. Chaos may happen quickly, but it’s rarely just one thing. Most of us are well equipped to handle one thing, or even a couple of things. But when we don’t recognize that something has knocked us off balance, it becomes easier and easier for other events, people, unforeseen occurrences to knock us down. I would submit to you that we each have at least one warning sign that, if we can recognize it, will let us know that things are not quite right and that we need to regroup a bit before they spin out of control. You may find this funny, absurd, or flat out ridiculous, but my warning sign is laundry. How do I know? Almost without fail, if I’ve done a lot of laundry and I haven’t folded any of it or put it away for a few days, it coincides with a time where I’m not on top of things the way I want to be. It’s usually is a time where I’m running around a lot, more tired than usual, in and out of town, or I’ve been prioritizing incorrectly. I also find that once I finally take the time to properly put everything away, my whole life – not just my room – feels more organized.

It’s important that we recognize the signs in our lives that let us know we’re a little off center. They may be very obvious or very subtle. But acknowledging them allows us to regroup before things pile up on our plates and push us too far off the charted course.

Make it a GREAT day!

Stay blessed.
