Yinzers at the Next Level

A weekly series that will track the progress of Pittsburgh athletes at the next level… playing college lacrosse! As Pittsburgh has improved over time, the area has produced more and more high level talent. We are now at the point where tracking Pittsburgh players in college should be a thing. And now it is. Check out Yinzer Report #1 and #2 to get caught up1

We have lots of new names to recognize this week. There is more Pittsburgh talent than previously thought!

NCAA D1

Robert Morris – Senior Brian Bohn (Seneca Valley) made 8 saves in a 13-9 win over Jacksonville. RMU improves to 3-4 on the season.

NCAA D2

Le Moyne – Senior defenseman John Arcangelo (Franklin Regional) has appeared in three games.

Lenoir-Rhyne – Senior Tyler Kotch (Butler) has 10 goals and 8 assists over eight games. Kotch had 38 points last year.

Mercyhurst – Senior Jake McAndrew (Seneca Valley) tallied 3 goals and 2 assists in a 10-5 win over Lindenwood. Hurst snapped a two game losing streak.

Seton Hill – The Griffins dropped an 8-7 decision to Pfeiffer. Senior Jimmy Cogley (Peters Township) and freshman Zach Rusch (Bethel Park) each scored once. Sophomore Anthony Peluso (North Allegheny) went 10-19 from the faceoff X.

Walsh – Senior Ben Stephens (Franklin Regional) has scored once this season.

NCAA D3

Baldwin Wallace – Freshman Tanner Roberts (Franklin Regional) has 9 goals and 2 assists in 6 games. He has scored at least once in each game. Freshman Joe Briski (Pine Richland) has tallied 2 goals and 1 assist

Dension – Freshman Will Nabors (Mt. Lebanon) allowed 2 goals in 3:36 of work in the Big Red’s 18-9 win over St. Mary’s. Junior Drew Newman (USC) had 2 ground balls and 1 caused turnover.

Gettysburg – Junior Bijan Firouzan (Mt. Lebanon) had an assist in a 10-4 win over Haverford.

John Carroll – Freshman Keegan Flinter (Upper St. Clair) has 9 goals and 3 assists in 8 games for the 7-1 Blue Streaks. Freshman high school teammate Daniel Kincaid has 2 goals and 1 assist.

McDaniel – Freshman Timothy McNichol (Mt. Lebanon) has exploded for 8 goals and 2 assists in his last three games for the Green Terror. He is 5th on the team in points.

St. Vincent – Junior Tim Oxenreiter (Central Catholic) tallied 2 goals in a 14-2 win over Franciscan and 1 goal and 2 assists in a 9-8 loss to Ferrum.

Washington & Jefferson –  Senior Casey Smallwood (Pine Richland) and junior John Bursch (Greensburg Central Catholic) each scored once in an 18-2 loss to Goucher.

Wooster – Sophomore LSM Patrick Edson (Sewickley) has appeared in 6 games for the 7-0 Scots collecting 15 ground balls.

Additional Yinzer News

The high school season is underway. Christian Coleman won his match up at the faceoff X against Connor Slomka helping Peters top Pine 11-9.

Mt. Lebanon and Seneca Valley opened their seasons with wins over Lancaster-based Ephrata.

New USC head man Brian Yates earned a season opening 12-5 victory over Chartiers Valley.

Reigning D2 champs Seton La-Salle were toppled by D1 Fox Chapel 11-4.

Mt. Lebanon took on North Allegheny last night (Monday) in a rematch of the 2013 WPIAL final. Mt. Lebanon won the hotly contested game 7-6 to start the season 2-0.
