A look at Division 2: Creighton stays hot

A look at Division 2: Creighton stays hot Think that lacrosse is only relevant on the coasts? Think again. The Creighton Bluejays lacrosse program in Omaha, Nebraska has been a constant contender in the GRLC Division 2 for the past four years.

See how the Jays did in two big games last weekend:

The Creighton Bluejays just completed another road trip in Springfield, MO. The team faced two tough opponents and it was a good test to see where we stand with other top teams in the conference.

The first game was against Harding University during a cold evening in Springfield. Any game against Harding is considered a big game as the two teams consider each other rivals. The Bluejays started fast with a quick goal from Senior Attackman Tyler Craven. The Bison controlled most of the first half until 4 unanswered goals by the Bluejays in the second quarter brought the score to a tie at halftime. The game continued to be tight in the second half until Creighton blew it open in the fourth quarter. Creighton ended with 5 goals in the final quarter while Harding posted 0 goals. Key performers were Junior Attackman Michael Carmody (3 goals, 5 assists) and Craven (4 goals). Sophomore Goalie Kevin Wiederin had yet another big game in net with 14 saves.

The second game of the weekend was against host Missouri State. The Bears kept their momentum from their Friday night game going and jumped out to a quick 4-1 start. The Bluejays were never able to get their offense going and the Bears had a 11-4 advantage at the end of the third quarter. Creighton scored 3 goals in the fourth to bring the final score to 13-7 in favor of the Bears. Missouri State had the momentum the whole game and Creighton could not find the energy to slow their pace. Top performers for the Bluejays were Senior Midfielder Kent Lighthall (2 goals, 1 assist) and Freshman Midfielder Peter Bermes (1 goals, 2 assists).

Creighton has a long break until their next game. The next game is scheduled for March 28 against Dordt at home at 11:00am, as well as South Dakota on the same day at 3:30pm.
