Music Monday: A Real Scorcher

Editor’s Note: Please welcome Nate Fritts to the Lacrosse All Stars! After spending a lot of time with Nate on the Rhino Lacrosse Camp Tour a couple summers back, we quickly came to respect his passion for all things music and immediately knew he would be our man for Music Monday. Nate hales from Portland, Oregon, played at Bowdoin College (NESCAC) in Maine, and now resides in Boston, MA where he researches concussions and brain diseases when he’s not laxing.

It was a scorching 65 degrees here in Boston today. The sun was out, the Berklee kids were strumming on the sidewalk, the Harvard kids were reading their Thoreau in the grass, and all it made me want to do is get this first song to you ASAP so you can prepare for summer. Is it too early to start that conversation? Probably…but here in New England, a glimpse of the sun can inspire a lot of hope.

Icona Pop – “I Don’t Care (ft. Charli XCX)”

Ever heard of Icona Pop out of Stockholm? Me neither. I cannot tell you much about this indie pop group but what I can tell you is that “I Don’t Care” from last year is a jam good for just about any occasion. Whether you’re getting pumped for a game, celebrating the win in the locker room or lax house, or just cruising out in the sun, this is the track for you. Don’t expect too much lyrical depth – Icona Pop just puts together an upbeat, good-feeling pop tune. Enjoy this rando!

Cold War Kids – “Lost That Easy”

I first got turned on to the Cold War Kids three summers ago during my first road trip to Boise, Idaho. Coach Al Z and I were en route in a packed-to-the-brim station wagon to run the first Rhino Lacrosse Academy in that amazing frontier town. We left Portland and drove through the night, seeing the sunrise just before the Oregon-Idaho border. About that same time, “We Used to Vacation” by the CWK came on and I’ve been hooked ever since. “Lost That Easy” is the second track off their very recent Dear Miss Lonelyhearts (2013) and is my favorite song off the album at this point. Be sure to give this song and the band, in general, a good thorough listen.
