Will Yeatman headed to Maryland

“Arguably the most prolific lacrosse player to come from the West Coast”, former Notre Dame football and lacrosse player Will Yeatman will enroll at Maryland this January. His release from the Fighting Irish was recently granted, allowing him to play lacrosse for the Maryland Terps this spring. However, he’ll have to sit out a year for football.

Will Yeatman

Yeatman, a product of Rancho Bernardo High in San Diego, CA, originally chose Notre Dame because lacrosse was his top priority. Choosing football would have landed him at Maryland. So, this might have been a long time coming.

Once he arrived in South Bend, Yeatman started to get in trouble, seeming to never get his footing in the Irish tradition. He missed the 2008 lacrosse season following an operating while intoxicated arrest last January. Then he only played in three football games this fall before being suspended after an arrest for underage drinking, false informing and resisting arrest at an off-campus party in September.

This kid has all the talent in the world, so let’s hope he’s making the right choice here and going to a place that better suits him. The worst thing to ever see is a player fail because of bad choices off the field. Assuming it all works out and Yeatman finds his happy place in College Park, we can be sure that Terps fans will feel like they got a pretty damn good Christmas present. Will Yeatman has another chance to make a name for himself….Will Yeatman, Turtle for life.
