Game of the Week

New Westminster Salmonbellies @ Delta Islanders
Saturday June 14th

In this high stakes rematch of last week’s game and the season series at a split. The teams will look for what will give them the edge and more importantly the W. With Delta in third and New West in second, both teams are looking to close in on the Adanacs and give themselves top spot in the league.

‘Bellies players Josh Byrne, Tyrell Hammer-Jackson and Nathan Stuart returned home from their college teams last week and it looks as though they could have been the missing piece to a near perfect puzzle. In his first three games back, Byrne has racked up 14 goals and 11 assists putting him in a three way tie for fifth in points amongst his teammates. Coach Dan Perreault will look to keep his team rolling as the match up against Greg Rennie’s Islanders for the teams last regular season match up this summer.

Delta hit a bit of a bump in the road losing two of their last three games, one to New West and one to the Adanacs, but got back on track with a much needed win against the Shamrocks to cap off their week. The Islanders will look to build on what they started on the Island and show the league they deserve to be in the sitting in third. With Delta playing Coquitlam again this week before facing the ‘Bellies, you can expect them to come out looking to knock off the top ranked team in the BCJALL before the game of the week.

With this week looking like a playoff sneak peak for the A’s, ‘Bellies and Islanders, you can be sure to expect nothing but the best from the league’s top dogs.

Week 8 Preview

POCO @ New West – With New West closing the gap on first place this past week in decisive fashion, outscoring there last three opponents 55-11, they will look to returning player Josh Byrne and hometown hero Anthony Malcom to continue their scoring ways. The two have combined for 38 points in their past two games. POCO will be looking to end this hot streak and redeem themselves after suffering losses to New West and Victoria last week and get back in playoff contention. The will need to rely on the offence of Connor Goodwin and Tanner Fisher as well as some strong play between the pipes if they want to compete against the ‘Bellies

Delta @ Coquitlam – When these teams met this past week Coquitlam showed why the deserve top spot in the league as they were led by Jean-Luc Chetner who potted four goals and added two helpers to help the A’s defeat Delta 15-10. Delta struggled in goal against the Adanac’s when the teams last met but goaltenders Rylan Hood and Matt Keith have been known to push each other and have big bounce back games in the past when they are needed most. This will be a character game for both teams and a huge chance for Delta to show they can play with some of the best.

Victoria @ Nanaimo – The battle of the Rock. With the season series at one win for each team, the third and final regular season meeting between these two teams will have a much needed 2 points up for grabs as both clubs are in contention for a playoff position in addition to some bragging right. Nanaimo is looking for something big after dropping a 22-2 decision to New West in their last outing. Victoria is looking to get back into the win column after losing a close home game to Delta, Sunday.

POCO @ Langley – The two teams currently at the bottom of the standings battle it out in the hopes to leave the other behind. A win for POCO could put them back on an even playing field with the Thunder and the Lakers but a loss could potentially leave them in the dust. The Thunder will lean on the abilities James Rahe and Brett Dobray as they look to knock off the Saints and start to get back into the swing of things.

Burnaby @ Victoria – This game will be the first meeting between the Lakers and Shamrocks and will kick off their back-to-back battle this weekend. After their first win in 8 games, Burnaby will look to add another to the W column and claw themselves out of the hole they’ve dug for themselves again this season. Meanwhile, Victoria will be looking to increase their hold on the fourth and final playoff spot with an important win against the Lakers. The Shamrocks will look to their youngsters to continue to lead the way on offense and experienced goaltending to keep them in the game.

New West @ Delta – A rematch Delta is looking to redeem themselves in. After traveling to Queen’s Park and losing 14-4 to the ‘Bellies the Islanders are looking for something big at home. In what could be a potential first round playoff match up, both teams look for the win that could give them the mental edge. Delta will have to look to slow down New West’s red hot offence to keep it tight and a big game by Cody Nass and Eli McLaughlin, the dynamic Islander duo that was loaned to the ‘Bellies last summer will need to come up huge as Delta looks to win the season series.

Victoria @ Burnaby – As this will be the second meeting in 24 hours for the two clubs, it will be interesting to see how the result of the first game effects the outcome of the second. Will the home floor make the difference? Are there player rivalries that will heat up? Will injuries come into play? With both teams needing wins as we approach the end of the season. This weekend could make or break either team.
