Super Weekend In Arizona with Don Zimmerman

How do you spread the game of lacrosse and make sure it is done the right way?  That’s a complicated question because there are so many different levels (players, coaches, officials, administrators) of education, but US Lacrosse seems to think they have a pretty good answer!

Arizona Lacrosse. Remember that?

Instead of spreading events out, US Lacrosse is pushing for a weekend of nothing but lax.  The Arizona Super Weekend events will take place November 5-7th and will include coaching clinics, player clinics, and lessons for officials. A program for parents of lacrosse players will be available as well.  Add in some big time headline names like coach Don Zimmerman and the events have instant credibility.

Don Zimmerman KNOWS lax. period.

We’re all for growing the game and this seems like a great way to do it!

From the US Lacrosse Press Release:

PHOENIX – US Lacrosse and the Arizona Chapter of US Lacrosse will host a Fast Break Initiative “Super Weekend” at Arcadia High School in Phoenix, Ariz., Nov. 5-7. The 15 events are free and will cover everything a fledgling lacrosse area will need to flourish into a self-sustaining organization, including youth lacrosse clinics for boys grades 3-12 and girls grades K-12, a coaching education clinic, a men’s and women’s officials clinic, and a parents’ education clinic.

Coach Don Zimmerman, head men’s lacrosse coach at University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) will start off the weekend with the keynote address from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday’s free events include a US Lacrosse Coaching Education Program (CEP) Level 1 coaching clinic, U.S. men’s national team clinic, Arizona Lacrosse Officials Association (ALOA) training, Arizona Women’s Lacrosse Umpires Association (AWLUA) training, Arizona State University (ASU) team clinic and nine breakout sessions throughout the day.

“This ‘Super Weekend’ is the first of its kind,” said Joshua Christian, US Lacrosse managing director of sport development. “To provide this prosperous lacrosse area with comprehensive resources to help grow the games successfully and responsibly is something we hope to continue and build upon for future Fast Break Initiative sites. It is a great opportunity for all levels of players, coaches, officials and parents.”

“The Arizona Chapter of US Lacrosse is very excited to host a Fast Break Initiative event and we are looking forward to a large number of participants to make this weekend successful,” said Arizona Chapter President Marie Baca. “Arizona displays a strong enthusiasm for the sport and the chapter’s willingness to learn and work with US Lacrosse will help us grow the game at the correct pace for our area. The Fast Break Initiative is a fantastic resource to assist the chapter in reaching our goals. We are pleased to have been chosen and are looking forward to providing education and support to all members of the lacrosse programs in our community and beyond. We thank US Lacrosse for this fantastic opportunity.”
