GMODT’s Music Monday Featuring The Incredible Bongo Band

I know what your thinking: Mondays are a drag and I need that little extra something to get me going through the day. What might that be? Friends? Family? No. The answer: bongos. Lot’s of em. This week on GMODT we feature the one and only Incredible Bongo Band and tracks off their sole album, “Bongo Rock”.

The Incredible Bongo Band is a group that was made up of seventies session musicians who had worked with artists as diverse as the Beatles, James Brown and Indian sitar player Ravi Shankar. The album never had huge sales but would discover it’s place in music history when sampled in the late seventies/early 80’s by one of the first important hip-hop artists, Grand Master Flash. His remix of the old tune “Apache” that was covered on “Bongo Rock” is credited for helping kick start hip-hop and single handily helping to invent break dancing. So respect your elders and get down with the bongo rock!
