Hot Pot: Meet The UnCommonFit Laser Sharks!

Today I’m going to introduce you to a new US-based box lacrosse team that is doing big things and is well worth getting to know a little better: the UnCommonFit Laser Sharks!

PJ Martin is the man behind UnCommonFit (a growing custom lacrosse apparel company) and he’s also the man responsible for organizing the Laser Sharks box lacrosse team. PJ played at Drew and was a captain as a senior in 2004, now he plays club lacrosse, runs UCFit, and coaches youth teams in New Jersey, along with starting up the UnCommonFit Laser Sharks.

The Laser Sharks of today are a revolving cast of characters. Many of the players live in NYC, Philly, and Baltimore and depending on where they are playing, the roster can change up. In the Laser Sharks first tournament, the Kevin Figaniak Tournament, the team went undefeated and took home the title against a tough Wheeling Jesuit squad.

In case you’re wondering who #12 is for the Laser Sharks (in blue), that’s Anthony Terranova, former Rutgers captain and All Big East selection. Clealry, Terranova is suited for the box game!

Here is the rest of the Laser Sharks roster: RF – Erik Stilley, Anthony Lucchetto, Dave DeRiso, Caleb Holt LF – Erik Holt, Matt Hickman, Ross Turco TR- Julian Malisewski, Scott Prestridge, Pete Sayia, Adam Nauerth, George Castle, Anthony Terranova, PJ Martin DEF – Josh Rachman, Mike O’Brien, Steve Holmes, Eric DiProspero, Ryan Licht, Hirbod Azmi, Chris Rogers GOAL – Ginny Capicchioni, Frank Menschner

What’s exciting about this team is that they plan on sticking together and playing in more events, and they are not just done after winning one trophy. Currently, the Laser Sharks plan on playing an exhibition game in Baltimore on January 24th (that’s right in the middle of US Lacrosse’s #LaxCon!). I’m getting word that their could be a VERY interesting guest player for the Laser Sharks as well, so this is definitely a game you’re going to want to check out!

We also hear they could be making a trip out to Vegas for a tourney out West. Numerous members of this team will also play in the 2015 Ales Hrebesky Memorial, although that will likely be for the Boston Megamen team.

At the end of the day, the UnCommon Fit Laser Sharks team is still new and young. They don’t have a home arena to call home, nor do they play in a league with a regular scedule, but that could certainly change as the team continues to grow, improve and organize.

A tip of the hat goes out to PJ Martin for starting up this team. We wish him, and all the Laser Sharks out there, the absolute BEST of luck moving forward. More American box lacrosse… that’s a good thing!
