Hot Pot Of Lax: College Lacrosse Starts In 2 Days

Guess who is kicking off the season?

Welcome to another Hot Pot!  This week’s HP has us REALLY excited and the reason should be obvious: College Lacrosse GAMES start in only TWO DAYS!!!!!!  I mean, how could you not be excited by that????  The first game of the year, at least that we are aware of, will take place this Friday and pit Texas A&M against LSU in Louisiana at 7:30pm.

We’re not aware of any plans to broadcast the game yet, but if that changes you’ll be the first to know!  Neither of these teams currently sits in the MCLA Top 25, but both are looking to make big strides in 2012.  And this is a perfect tone to set for the entire year.  As seasons progress, focus is often dialed in on the “top” teams, but if we want to Grow the Game, teams that are on the rise deserve attention as well.  And LSU – Texas A&M to kick off the season is perfect.

Neither of these squads was a world beater last year.  But 2012 is different story, and one of them will be the only team in the country with a win… for at least 16.5 hours, because at noon on Saturday, the 28th, Coastal Carolina travels to the Citadel to do battle, and then it only increases from there.  On Saturday we’ll also see Alabama (MCLA) at Birmingham-Southern. (D-III), Auburn (MCLA) at Huntingdon (D-III), Baylor at Sam Houston State, C. of Charleston at South Carolina, Centenary at St. Edward’s, Central Florida at North Florida, Clemson (MCLA) at Limestone (D-II), Marymount College at Cal Lutheran, Morehouse at Georgia State, Pepperdine at Occidental, Southern Virginia (MCLA) at Guilford (D-III), Texas A&M at UL Lafayette, Texas San Antonio at Rice, and finally, Texas State at Texas Tech.

On Sunday we’ll also see Centenary at Baylor, Florida Southern (D-II) at Central Florida (MCLA), Georgia State at Auburn, Georgia Tech at Kennesaw State, Mary Hardin-Baylor at Stephen F. Austin, Simon Fraser at Washington, South Florida at North Florida, and Texas Tech at Trinity.   There are a couple of DIII and DII teams playing MCLA teams in scrimmages, which have been included in the lists above.

NCAA D1 kicks off with UMass heading to Army on February 10th.  DIII starts up the next day with Mary Washington traveling Virginia Wesleyan and Randolph-Macon making the trek to York.  But even after all that, I’m still excited for Texas A&M – LSU!!!!

We want to wish all of the college players out there good luck this spring.
