The Return Of Music Monday

As I was preparing to resurrect the Music Monday series out of the ashes of GMODT, I started thinking of all the songs and albums I’ve been listening to over the past few months. I’ve got so many, I couldn’t pick what to share. For the sake of this post, I’ll admit it was pure mind chaos.

Then, three days ago, a friend of mine asked “Have you ever heard of Hockey?” I quickly answered, “Yes, of course, great sport, watch it all the time but I’ve actually only played roller hockey before.” He looked at me like I was crazy. My mind was a mess again.

Moments later he had me downloading an album called Mind Chaos by a musical group called Hockey. What a coincidence. Finally, I knew what to share. I didn’t even have to listen (but I did).

Hockey – Put The Game Down

Hockey – Song Away

Apparently Hockey is a Portland, OR band that’s blowing up in popularity overseas in the UK. They’re album Mind Chaos debuted in 2009 and many tabbed the sound to be like “Rod Stewart meets Talking Heads.” I don’t know about that, but I do know their tunes are exceptionally unique and entertaining.

“It is hard to categorize Hockey’s sound. Think Rod Stewart meets Talking Heads, with a bit of Tom Tom Club and funk thrown in, and yet that still does not do complete justice in describing Hockey. They have such a cool 80s vibe to them, but they are not stuck in the 80s merely trying to imitate anything in particular. “Mind Chaos” is just really well-conceived music from start to finish. The vast majority of songs are upbeat, with driving rhythm guitar and bass. Each song has a unique character and adds something to the album.”

You can preview more or purchase the album on Amazon or iTunes.
