Vandal Shots Week 7: Pro7’s Took Over My Dining Room

Editor’s note: Krieg Shaw takes us behind the scenes of University of Idaho men’s lacrosse throughout the 2009-2010 season. The Idaho Vandals are an MCLA D1 team, competing in the Pacific Northwest Conference. Shaw, a senior midfielder, will be contributing photos on a weekly basis all season long. If you missed them, here’s Week 1 , Week 2 , Week 3, Week 4, Week 5 & Week 6.

Last weekend was not the greatest of games for the ol’ Vandal football program as most of America may have witnessed via ESPNU. Despite our go get’em attitude, we just couldn’t keep up with the Broncos and got straight routed 63-25, with our QB throwing a prestigious 5 interceptions. This weekend we have a bye, and hopefully we will use that to fully prepare to send our seniors out with a bang and beat Utah State next weekend.

But while football is ending and leaving us with a hunger for more progress, basketball is coming in guns a’blazing, notching a solid win over last year’s 24-10 Utah (for the first time in 71 years), who also had a #5 seed in the NCAA tourney last March. Apparently Utah’s coach didn’t choose his words very well and single-handedly gave the Vandals everything they needed to come ready to play in saying the game would be “Idaho’s Super Bowl”.

Last night the Vandals took on North Dakota State University and left Fargo with an 81-69 victory over the Bison. This marks our second victory over NCAA Tournament teams in three games. Let’s hope they keep up the momentum.

Last week also brought some evil from the skies. Friday night had nothing for us but snow, making my 7:30 am Praxis test on Saturday that much better.

Thankfully it was in the 40’s for most of the day with some nice sunshine, so the snow melted, opening up the field for some more shooting and getting busy.

Earlier this month, I posted up a picture of the Kibbie Dome’s new renovations to the west side wall. A couple weeks ago while going to class I actually looked up from my iPod and/or phone as I walked through the parking lot and saw the outside renovations they are working on just outside the new windows (It’s a wonder what you miss when you mindlessly go through your daily routine).

I’m assuming this is doubling as a nicer entrance and a route for emergency vehicles to get to the stadium easier.

This week also means Thanksgiving, so I’m typing the last part of this from Boise in between spending time with family and catching up with friends from the area.

Here are a couple snapshots from the trip home – not the best, but it’ll do.

Whitebird Pass

Whitebird Pass is nice little historical site of the Battle of Whitebird Canyon between the Nez Perce and the US Army, which ended with the Nez Perce pretty much dominating the Army.

Payette Lake is looking pretty good this time of year.

Last night, we managed to hit up the downtown scene for a little fiesta and to see a friend’s band. Here are a couple shots from downtown Boise.

And finally, here’s one for Mr. Hicks. I may talk about all our gear too much, but here is your reason why…

New heads, Pro7’s, Triumphs, helmet stickers, nets and mesh kits attempting to take over our dining area.

With that, I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving and hope this finds you well. Enjoy your Turkey Day and the time spent with friends and family.
