The JuCo Report: NJCAA Lacrosse Hits Full Stride

It can take a little while for any college lacrosse season at any level to really take off, but when NJCAA Lacrosse hits its full stride, it keeps on striding, because the season is short, and them championships are less than a month and a half away!

Throw out all your preconceived notions, look at the results so far, and tell me this isn’t the best season of JuCo men’s lacrosse we have seen in a while. Go ahead, pick another season… I’ll wait. See? It’s too hard. 2017 rules supreme! Sure, we have a favorite or two, but we also have newcomers, and NOTHING is set in stone. It’s a beautiful thing, revel in its glory.

A Predictable Week?

It’s been a series of ups and down for a lot of teams, but as you can see in the Top Ten (Twelve) Poll at the beginning of the post, there was not a lot of movement whatsoever. The poll from last week bore out in this week’s results for the most part, and a number of results backed up the current placements.

However, I’m not sold on the idea that the rest of the season will remain as predictable, OR that this week was actually all that predictable! There are a lot of good games still to come, and plenty of chances for upsets, statement games, and good ol’ fashioned hard-nosed wins. And THEN we get to the playoffs! NJCAA lacrosse has its stride, but that doesn’t mean it’s not going to get even better. Prepare thy selves! In the meantime, here were a couple eyebrow raising results:

TC3 may have lost to OCC by 25 this past weekend, but their win over Hudson Valley on Wednesday can’t go unnoticed. The Poll paid attention and put Tomkins Cortland in the mix. 14-10 is a good result, and for TC3 to put up 14 goals against Hudson Valley’s keeper is impressive. Genesee would put up 23 goals against HV, so 14 is a good marker.

Harford and Anne Arundel had QUITE a game, with Harford pulling out an 11-10 win. It may be the result (win vs loss) many predicted, but the tight game means nothing is set in stone at this point. The traditional powers of AACC and Essex are still very much alive. Speaking of Essex…

Nassau beat Essex 6-5, and while it again shows that this is going to continue to be a tight year of competition, it also shows that Nassau is fully prepared for one goals, or tight, games. Two of their three losses are by 1 goal, and the other was a 3 goal loss to OCC on the road. Nassau also has 3 one goal wins, one of which went to OT, and of their 7 true NJCAA games, all 7 teams are in the Top 10 right now.

Big Upcoming 2017 NJCAA Lacrosse Games

Wednesday, April 5th – Harford Vs Essex – Earlier I said that the traditional Maryland powers aren’t dead, and this is a huge game to prove it. I like Harford to win, but it’s far from in the bag. This should be the midweek game of the week. And now it is, because I just said so. Expect excellence!

Friday, April 7th – Finger Lakes Vs Tomkins Cortland – FLCC has a small roster, and yet they still have the potential to be a Top 10 team. If they want to do so, they NEED to beat TC3. There is just no question about it. Now, if Tomkins Cortland wants to stay in the Top 10, they also NEED to win this game. When you have two teams who seem to match up well on paper, and both NEED wins, it can lead to a super exciting contest. That’s my call here.

Saturday, April 8th – Howard Vs Genesee – Do I really need to say anything? Top 5 match up, dude!

So what do we get this week? Another great week of NJCAA lacrosse! Hallelujah.
