Lacrosse Philanthropists Blow Virtual #SquatForGood Challenge Out of the Water

#SquatForGood Challenge

To provide teams and players with a project to continue their spring lacrosse while staying active for a good cause, Lacrosse the Nations (LtN) launched the #SquatforGood Challenge last week.

In coordination with Global Youth Service Day on April 17th, over 200 lacrosse players and fans around the world came together from 6 countries, 24 states, and 22 different teams pledging 5 squats for every $1 raised for LtN’s youth development programming

Enthusiasm and creativity were unmatched when it came to squat time like Princeton Women’s Lacrosse’s Tik Tok and Wooster Men’s Lacrosse’s Rob Driscoll’s polar plunge.

Together this amazing group of lacrosse philanthropists raised over $30,000 for the cause and completed over 120,000 squats (plus 631 pull-ups, 2 murphs, and 1 polar plunge).

It’s truly amazing to see what can be accomplished when we work together and prioritize serving others. In a time when the sport of lacrosse has been put on hold, student-athletes across the country banded together to use their common love for the game to ensure its growth and its use as a platform for good. Because of these local youth leaders, kids around the world will continue to receive recreational programming, life skills instruction, scholarship and tutoring support, and lunches provided during school shutdowns.

“These incredible high school and college student athletes have made a MASSIVE impact on our programs and have ensured that LtN can continue to empower & create opportunities for young people through our favorite sport. We are truly touched, extremely impressed, and sincerely grateful for their enthusiasm, passion, and generosity. These all-stars continue to remind us why we wake up every day and love what we do.”  – Javier Silva, Executive Director for Lacrosse the Nations.

About Lacrosse the Nations

Founded in 2009 by Brett Hughes (’04 University of Virginia Lacrosse Alum & MLL All-Star) and Brad Corrigan (‘96 Middlebury College Lacrosse Alum) Lacrosse the Nations uses lacrosse and other physical activities to teach important life skills and provide positive outlets for sports and play. Internationally, over 350 students per week participate in PE and after school lacrosse programs in Nicaragua, Panama, and Colombia. Domestically, 50 kids participate in our summer program through the Boys and Girls Club of Central Virginia. Each year, more than 300 U.S. youth and college lacrosse players join our efforts as fundraisers and ambassadors through our Squat for Good campaign.
