Memorial Day Post: Support Shootout For Soldiers

As Memorial Day Weekend is now fully upon us and almost over, we wanted to remind everyone about the annual Shootout for Soldiers event. We got an email from Tyler Steinhardt showing off the jerseys for this year’s event, and we think it’s important to do our part to help promote the 24 hour lacrosse game, which benefits wounded American soldiers.

The event raised over $120,000 last year for the Wounded Warrior Project, and is hoping to do even more in 2013. 24Seven Lax’s Tom Huppman was honored to play in the event last year.

Tyler had the opportunity to visit Walter Reed Medical Hospital earlier last week, and it put this event in an entirely new perspective for him. He’s redoubling his efforts, so the least that the rest of us can do is get involved in some way.

Whether it’s by purchasing some American-themed Shootout for Soldiers gear at sfslacrosse.bigcartel.com, playing in the game yourself, or visiting their website to see how else you can get involved (website is www.shootoutforsoldiers.com), it all helps.menspinnieEvery dollar they fundraise goes directly to the Wounded Warrior Project, who provide the most comprehensive programs for our wounded soldiers. The sale of the jerseys/shorts goes directly to supporting the WWP, and it is the main push in fundraising, along with playing in the event (currently registration is publicly closed, but may reopen for a few later spots soon).

To donate directly you can visit: https://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/shootoutforsoldiers/shootoutforsoldiers2013

This year the event is being powered by the help of Paul Rabil, Brendan Mundorf, and USA Coach Richie Meade.  At 7pm there will even be an ‘MLL Hour’ where some MLL stars will be playing as well. So learn more here (www.shootoutforsoldiers.com), come on out, and enjoy 24 hours of lacrosse!
