Mike Birney Shoots 113 Miles Per Hour

Editor’s Note: Solid find by Lance Antoine… is there a new fastest lacrosse shot record holder now? And is he still in COLLEGE?

As I’m sure most of you know, in the MLL All-Star Game two years ago Paul Rabil set a record for the fastest lacrosse shot. The shot clocked in at a blazing 111 mph. A year later Kyle Hartzell would tie it. The two have shared the record, until now. In my eye’s the record has been broken.

In a video that popped up on YouTube a few weeks ago Detroit Mercy sophomore Mike Birney shot a whopping 110 mph, 1 mph short of Rabil’s record. For those of you unfamiliar with Birney, he was 2nd team all MAAC and earned the MAAC Most Outstanding Player in the conference Championship. In his last season he had 31 goals and 40 points. His goals were what got Detroit so far in the tournament , as he had 2 game winners. Also he was Detroit’s Offensive Player of the Year. You can read more about him here.

In the old video you could see a look of disappointment as he was oh so close to the record.

Well, he practiced and practiced and practiced and took another crack at the record later. This time Mike’s shot registered at 113 mph!

Now it’s up to you to believe it or not. Keep in mind the shots were taken under different circumstances, either way this is an amazing feat. Keep in mind the All Star game is near so this record may be broken again as soon as Saturday, but until then enjoy!
