NLL Predictions And Previews: Week 1

The NLL is finally here!  It has seemed like an eternity waiting for the NLL to start, but the first game is now only a couple of days away. I firmly believe that this is the year that the NLL takes off, popularity wise. There is no NHL (yet), and I think that box lacrosse is finally starting to gain momentum.

Now that you can watch NLL games live on YouTube, via The Lacrosse Network, the possibilities are endless. The much anticipated first game of the NLL season is set for this Saturday and will feature reining NLL Champs, the Rochester Knighthawks, pitted against the Washington Stealth.

Week 1: Rochester Knighthawks vs. Washington Stealth – Sometimes you just have to take the good with the bad. The good: The NLL is starting. The bad: There is only one game this week.

Connor Wilson (0-0) – Rochester Knighthawks: “The Knighthawks have some new faces, but plenty of experience, and a lot of returning talent“.

Chris Rosenthall (0-0) – Rochester Knighthawks: “I love their offensive potential, especially now that Powell and Dawson have joined the squad“.

Ryan Connors (0-0) – Rochester Knighthawks

The defending champs are getting a lot of love early in the season, and they should. Rochester added 3 top-notch players to their already star-studded roster in the likes of the Dawson brothers and Casey Powell. The Knighthawks offense will be their strength this season – they share the ball well and spread the floor. If they can continue to share the wealth they will have success.  Rochester’s firepower will overwhelm Washington and they will get the victory.

Washington only won a handful of games last year as they struggled in the West Division. We will see an improvement in their 4-12 record from last season. Brett Bucktooth is playing much better lacrosse and Athan Iannucci is like a ticking time bomb ready to explode any second.  Iannucci lit it up for Langley in the Mann Cup and that will carry over to this winter in the NLL.  The Stealth have the weapons but I don’t see them coming away with a win here.  It should be a great first game though.
