Rhino Lacrosse Academy: Boise, Day 3

A much needed shady breezy morning to start of the day in Boise, the city of Trees.

Perfect Weather to begin the day. Campers eagerly wait to hear the itinerary for the day and to see what fun activity Coach Rhino has in store.

The day started out with, you guessed it, Rhino drills. They are now experts at these drills and the coaches have had to continuously increase the difficulty to keep up with these kids. Coach Mikey assigned homework to each of the kids overnight and it was amazing to see how many of the kids crushed this challenge.

Competitive spirits were high again and as soon as relay races were introduced to the Rhino drills kids began to really get after it.

Wheel Barrel racing. Some close battles!

The kids were then put into groups to work on some stick work drills. I had the opportunity to go with Coach Mikey and the younger group to play a new game called fireball. This game was a great way for the kids to understand team play and just a fun drill all around.

Following the first camp, Coach Rhino was challenged by some of the other staffers to eat a entire container of jalapenos. Not one to back out of a challenge and with money on the line, he completed the challenge like a champ. This wasn’t without pain though

The afternoon presented some heat (field temp was close to 104) but the kids pushed through like champs. After some quick Rhino drills, they were separated into groups and played a quick 4×3 drill.

Both sessions finished the day out with the Rhino Lax Camp World Famous Egg Toss (yes, World Famous). Some teams were getting pretty far away. This was the messiest display of hand eye coordination and luck that I have ever seen.

Today I had the opportunity to get a few moments with Coach Brian Cost and ask him a few questions. Coach Cost was on the Le Moyne National Championship team in both 2007 and 2008. Currently residing in Florida Coach Cost is working with Casey Powell (another decent lacrosse pro) at St. Andrews in Florida. Check out what he had to say about the team and be sure to check out Coach Cost on twitter for lax advice and news @briancost5
