Show LAS Your Old School: MILL John Tavares Trading Card

We asked and you answered. More Old School lacrosse photos have arrived!

Since it is unofficially “International Thursday” on LAS, and the NLL is an international pro sports league, we’re featuring a photo of an old John Tavares MILL trading card. The card is from the 1993 season, which was John’s second in what was then called the MILL (Major Indoor Lacrosse League… now the NLL).  It’s downright amazing that he is STILL playing pro indoor lacrosse at 42 years old and speaks to his ever-growing legacy as one of the best of all-time.  Here’s the write up from the back of the card:

“John Tavares was originally selected in the third round by the Detroit Turbos.  He was traded to the Buffalo Bandits for forward Brian Nikula.  JT was second on the Bandits in points, third in assists and forth in goals.  He was eighth in the league in goals, tied for forth in assists and forth in points.  John Tavares was named a Coors Light Game MVP on three ocassions as well asthe MVP of the Championship game.  He was Canada’s western Lacrosse Assosiation rookie of the year in 1990 and a member of the 1990 Senior A Box Lacrosse Champions.  He was also the top scorer in 1990-91.  John Tavares attended Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario where he recieved a degree in Physical Education.  While at WLU, he played varsity football and was an All Star in 1989 and 1990.  Originally from Toronto, John lives in Mississauga, Ontario, where he is employed by Loblaws as a baker.
1992/Buffalo/11 goals/34 assists/17 pen”

Many thanks to loyal reader PJ Rybczynski for the photo and for sending over the copy from the back of the card!  Great stuff, PJ!!!!
