Outside the Eight: Women’s Lacrosse Podcast

We are back with a brand new episode of Lacrosse All Stars’ newest lacrosse podcast — Outside the Eight. This podcast focuses on women’s lacrosse while sharing stories and experiences of current and former players and coaches. This podcast will grow the game, help others know the game and share stories that go beyond the field.

On this week’s Outside the Eight episode:

On this week’s episode of Outside the Eight, we have the lively, vivacious, and legendary Taylor Thornton (Northwestern, 2013). When we recorded this episode Taylor was just coming off of the inaugural WPLL season playing for the Baltimore Brave. Just two weeks ago she was inducted into Northwestern’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

Taylor grew up in Dallas and picked up a lacrosse stick after playing tennis as a child. She led her high school team (Hockaday School) to be one of the best in the Dallas area. With some encouragement, she joined Northwestern during their successive national championships. Taylor started all 90 games that she played in her career, with both all-conference and all-American honors throughout her four years. She was a Tewaaraton Finalist in 2012, leading her team in caused turnovers and ground balls, and notched 24 goals that year. Thornton went on to win two national championships in her college career, and was a integral part of the nation’s top women’s lacrosse program at the time.

Taylor is now living in Los Angeles and pursuing acting. She also coaches lacrosse for local club and high school teams. We talk about the transition to life after college, and what it’s like going from an elite athletic career to figuring out adult life on your own (hint: sometimes you have a to take a risk like packing your car and moving to a new city!). She also re-emerged on the lacrosse scene as a part of the WPLL this past summer, you can check out the Lacrosse All Stars YouTube channel to watch Taylor and the Baltimore Brave match up with Upstate Pride, in addition to the entire Women’s Professional Lacrosse League’s first season on demand.

We also cover:

1. Taylor’s experience entering Northwestern and earning respect.
2. Her experience being an Tewaaraton Nominee.
3. Diversity in lacrosse and importance of being role model.
4. How putting her stick down for awhile helped regain her passion.
5. The WPLL inaugural season and her heartbreaking absence from the championship game!
6. Life in LA and staying in shape post college
7.  Her new favorite stick! (spoiler: She is a StringKing Pro)
8. Exuding confidence always and staying true to yourself to achieve your goals.
