Stick Trick Saturday: Backspin

Editor’s note: Welcome back to new season of Stick Trick Saturday thanks to the unyielding support of Wolf Athletics, one of the most innovative lacrosse companies to join our stable of LAS Partners. LAS Insiders save BIG on the Ghost shaft from Wolf. SEASON 2 features a new host, an improved format, and some of the most amazing scenery from today’s up and coming lacrosse towns. We hope you enjoy!

We’re back in that beautiful Boise snow, down by the Whitewater Park in the City of Trees! While the extreme are surfing the river, I’m staying warm by working on body stalls while I watch.

Today’s trick is explained for the righties, but lefties can just reverse the instruction.

Backspin in 6 Easy Steps

  1. Start by stalling on your dominant side.
  2. Send the ball over the right shoulder, tracking closely behind the path of the ball with your head.
  3. Carefully guide the ball between your shoulder blades and trap it there. Now the hard part is over.
  4. When you’re ready, let go of the ball.
  5. Spin simultaneously with the ball dropping to the left with your stick now in one hand.
  6. If all goes well you will come underneath the ball as it is falling, catching it and securing another stick trick to add to your arsenal!

Start slow and keep the hands soft. Don’t get too dizzy and enjoy the view of the Ghost and I having fun down by the river!
