UNBELIEVABLE High School Lacrosse Goal

This is the best “one man show” high school lacrosse goal we’ve seen in a LONG time! Westminster’s Bryan Smith (#27) takes the face off, fights for the GB, wins it to himself, and then takes it to the rack. It’s sheer beauty in action!

Traditional Thursday: Traditional For Face Offs?

I got to know Julian Maliszewski at this year’s Ales Hrebesky Memorial, and I asked this dominant face off man why he used a traditional pocket. We got to talking, and I wasn’t shocked to find out that Julian knew a lot about the art of leather and string, so I sent him some questions about his pocket, and face off guys using traditional, and Julian crushed out some awesome answers. He also sent over some photos of the heads and pockets he uses.

Facing Off: The Clamp

One of my favorite things about teaching the fundamentals of face-offs is that the improvement can happen instantly. Eventually it’s the little things that separate good face-off men from great face-off men.

2014 Ales Hrebesky Memorial – Face Offs

Far too often, the grinders get no respect in the world of sport! To remedy this situation, we’re highlighting the offensive play, the defensive play, and now, the face off play from the 2014 Ales Hrebesky Memorial box lacrosse tournament from the Czech Republic!

Hot Pot: Solving The Specialization Problem – One Rule

Lacrosse does have some issues, but almost all of them can be fixed with ONE SIMPLE CHANGE: Limit roster sizes to less than 20 player and you will see a change. I’ve seen it happen before, and it can happen again. We can keep tinkering with the rules, and distancing our game from its original inception, OR we can limit roster sizes and let the players play. It really is a simple choice.

The Ultimate Face Off Head Review

Faceoffs are a huge part of lacrosse, and finding the right equipment to get the job done can be a challenge. I approached Connor Wilson with the idea of reviewing college legal heads, specifically for faceoffs, and he was on board, knowing how important this aspect of the game can be. I’m hoping you find this resource to be useful!

Face Off Tips for Beginners

Forum Friday

Between The Faceoff Academy’s national showcase and Adrenaline’s upcoming Faceoff Challenges, we’ve been talking a lot about face offs the past few days. For this week’s Forum Friday, we’re continuing the trend. Our poster isn’t new to lacrosse, but he is new to facing off, and he needs our help to answer his face off questions.

Ever Seen A Behind The Back Face Off?

Stephen Cuccurullo of the Tenacious Turtles wins a face off clamp, pulls the ball out with one hand, and goes behind his back to keep possession. I am pretty sure I couldn’t do that! The ref is in the way, but the video should be slow enough where you can see the action. Pretty insane stuff from a kid who is still quite a few years away from playing in college.

How To Pinch ‘n’ Pop With Greg Gurenlian

I caught up with Greg Gurenlian the other week to cover Team USA tryouts and his Face Off Academy camps and clinics. I also asked Greg to demonstrate the perfect pinch’n’pop face off move, and the Beast delivered, so much so that I think I could actually win a face off using this technique now.
