Pat Johnston picked up his fourth win of the season in goal for the RIT Tigers, making eight saves in net. Pat also got on the scoreboard and notched his first goal of the year about half way through the first half against WNEU. His goal gave RIT a 4-2 lead, and RIT would go on to win the game 18-6.

As a goalie, there is nothing worse than a crank shot from 5 yards away… the second least favorite shot for most keepers has to be the long pole bomb. You never know where it’s going, the angles are different, and half the time the poles don’t even know where the ball is going. It makes for exciting lacrosse, and can be a momentum changing play.

Goalies are incredibly important in lacrosse, and sometimes they just don’t get the love they deserve. As an attackman, I know that I’ve given out a few stingers and shots and rides. As long as it’s not a penalty, that’s just good hard play, but when it’s your own goalie, you need to give him props. In the end, you can’t play without a goalie, he’s your last line defense, and game after game he takes a beating.

What Is The Guardian Goalie Combine?

The Guardian National Championship is a brand new “championship style” goalie combine, and it is the brain child of Ginny Capicchioni. The idea behind the combine is that “the best of the best, both domestically and internationally, are invited to compete against each other for the chance to be crowned the Guardian of their age group”. We had to learn more!
