In a back-and-forth game on a beautiful day in Orange County, Calif., the No. 1 Grand Valley State Lakers captured their first MCLA Division II national championship with a 12-11 win over No. 2 St. John’s. The Lakers and Johnnies both had appeared in but never won a championship game before today, with GVSU falling in the 2012 and 2008 finals and St. John’s dropping the 2007 final.

MCLA Complete Viewing Guide – Championship Games

Finally, the MCLA National Championship games are nigh. Tomorrow, May 17th, four universities will play in two games to decide the National Champions of the MCLA Division I and II. The Division II game starts at noon and the Division I game will begin immediately after at 3.

Lakers Avenge Loss in Semis, Hope for Same Versus St. John’s in Finals

Before an 11 game win streak that took Grand Valley State into the MCLA national tournament as the top seed, the Lakers started the 2014 season with two losses – first to St. John’s and then against St. Thomas. Yesterday GVSU avenged the St. Thomas loss with a 10-5 semifinal win, and Saturday they will have a chance to gain another rematch victory in the championship game against No. 2 St. John’s.
