Major League Lacrosse announced today that South Florida is officially getting an MLL team for 2014. The speculation surrounding this move existed before the 2012 all-star game was played in Boca Raton, but that event, along subsequent successful events, cemented the league’s move to the Sunshine State.
Major League Lacrosse has announced that every team in the league has submitted its 23-Man Protected Roster for 2014. The MLL also sent out the rosters for the 8 teams. Teams are granted a 40-man roster leading into the season, and they can fill those remaining 17 spots with supplemental draft picks, college draft picks, and trades, before the start of the 2014 campaign.
2011 saw the Boston Cannons win their first Major League Lacrosse title, and although it took the team from Beantown a while to grab their first Steinfeld Cup (they’re an original franchise!), when they did, it was special! It took a great game from Jordan Burke in goal, and a heck of a day shooting by Matt Poskay, but the Cannons pulled out the 10-9 win.
The Hamilton Nationals improved to 9-3 on the season, and clinched a spot at Championship Weekend (in Philly on Aug 24-25th), with a 17-12 win over the visiting Boston Cannons this past weekend. Hamilton roared out to a huge first quarter lead, and Boston never caught up, dropping to 5-7 on the year, and in desperate need of a strong run to end the year, if the Cannons want to make the playoffs.
