High Point Tops Michigan 13-10 + Video

Dam Lomas continues to score big goals for the High Point men’s lacrosse team, and he added six huge goals to his season total in HPU’s 13-10 win over Michigan. This catch and shoot play is incredibly impressive:

We get to see three more years of Lomas after 2013, as he is only a freshman… and he’s paying off already for Coach Torpey!

I'd be excited too!

Matt Thistle also continued his hot hand when it came to scoring and leading the HPU offense, notching six points on three goals and three assists. Mitchell Dupere was also strong, adding a goal and assisting on three others for HPU.

Austin Geisler was very solid in net for HPU, making 13 big saves, and he needed to be, as Gerald Logan was also on point for the Wolverines, notching 16 saves. Logan has been impressive so far this year, and he should continue to be a really bright spot for Michigan in the years to come. UM got four goals from Mike Hernandez, and Kyle Jackson had five points on a goal and four helpers.

High Point and Michigan traded goals, and leads, for much of the game. In the third quarter, after going down 6-5, HPU was able to tack on four straight goals, which was the difference maker in the game. UM broke the run with a man up goal, but HPU Scored 2 of the last three goals in the game to seal the win.

HPU stayed aggressive, and kept scoring.

HPU outshot Michigan 41-33, and had 14 turnovers, compared to Michigan’s 20. High Point cleared the ball well, going 15-17, while UM struggled a bit, going 14-22. HPU also won the ground ball battle, scooping up 15 more GBs than the Wolverines (41-26).

The teams almost split face offs (HPU held a slight advantage at 14-13 thanks to Jamie Piluso, another standout freshman), and Michigan dominated on man-up, going 2-4, while HPU struggled (0-2), but it wasn’t enough to win on the road for UMich.

High Point (2-5) takes on UMBC in Batlimore on March 16th for their next contest, while  Michigan (0-5) plays at Hobart on March 9th.
