Music Monday: Deer Tick

Editor’s Note: Please welcome Nate Fritts to the Lacrosse All Stars! This isn’t his first time on the site of course, we had the pleasure of meeting Nate on the Rhino Lacrosse Camp Tour a couple summers back. Nate hails from Portland, Oregon, played at Bowdoin College (NESCAC) in Maine, and now resides in Boston, MA where he researches concussions and brain diseases when he’s not laxing.

With summer well underway, we wanted to up your weekly dosage of music, so we decided to double our music offering to you. Each Monday, Michael Allen will take the morning detail, and Nate Fritts will continue to knock out the night hours… and sometimes Tuesday morning. Everybody wins! Check out all the Music Monday posts here!

Here at LAS, I’d like to think we’ve been on a roll as of late bringing you some great music that you won’t find on the Billboard charts or iTunes top lists, and we’re keeping the ball rolling on that theme this week. Deer Tick hails from Providence, Rhode Island, not too far down the road from Boston. In fact, my ears met Deer Tick on a late night in South Boston because they are a local favorite of some of my former teammates. John McCauley is the grungy voice and captivating writer behind DT’s songs, to which it is difficult to stick a genre. Sometimes they remind me of Nirvana; other times they feel like Delta Spirit. Regardless of where they fall on the musical spectrum, Deer Tick deserves a listen on your next road trip or relaxing night at home. Also, keep a heads up for their new album, Negativity, which release September 24th.

“Baltimore Blues No. 1”

“Twenty Miles”

“Smith Hill”

Remember! Deer Tick is a smaller band, so if you like their sound, be sure to go support them by actually buying their music!
