New NCAA D2 Program: Lynn University

Lynn University, located in Boca Raton, FL has added an NCAA D2 men’s lacrosse team, and the program kicked off its inaugural season officially last night with their first ever game. Lynn hosted fellow NCAA D2 program Wheeling Jesuit (located in West Virginia) for their program opener and dropped a 14-5 decision.

Lynn has a strong soccer program, beautiful fields, and an attractive campus. While D1 men’s lacrosse has only one team in Florida (Jacksonville) and D3 has none, D2 growth is exploding in the Sunshine State. The University of Tampa, Florida Southern, Florida Tech, St. Leo’s, and Rollins all have programs now. Young Harris  and Shorter in GA both have teams now. D2 lacrosse is growing like gang busters down South!

Larry Palumbo of Coyote Magic Action Shots was down in FLA for the opening game, and he sent over a couple of game photos. One has to like Wheeling Jesuit’s look this year. Very snazzy. Lynn is looking pretty good too!

Check out the NCAA D2 Poll here. Both Tampa and St. Leo’s have found their way into the Top 15. Wheeling Jesuit received votes, but was outside the official Top 15 at #22.
