A Night’s Worth of Music Monday

Editor’s Note: Please welcome Nate Fritts to the Lacrosse All Stars! This isn’t his first time on the site of course, we had the pleasure of meeting Nate on the Rhino Lacrosse Camp Tour a couple summers back. Nate hails from Portland, Oregon, played at Bowdoin College (NESCAC) in Maine, and now resides in Boston, MA where he researches concussions and brain diseases when he’s not laxing.

Each Monday, Michael Allen will take the morning detail, and Nate Fritts will continue to knock out the night hours… and sometimes Tuesday morning. Everybody wins! Check out all the Music Monday posts here!

Just as it sounds, we’re back with the nightly post of Music Monday to give you three new tracks that make up a perfect night of music…just enough of everything. ‘Nuff said.

Tonight’s Warm-Up: Rizzle Kicks – “Don’t Bring Me Down”

From across the pond in Brighton, England comes Rizzle Kicks, a young rap duo that has been turning ears in the UK but is lesser known here in the US. On September 2nd, they released their new album Roaring 20’s that included “Don’t Bring Me Down.” These two have a great alternative sound that resembles Handsome Boy Modeling School and Del The Funky Homosapien. Definitely keep an eye out for these guys as they gain popularity listen through Roaring 20’s when you get the chance.

The Headliner: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – “Can’t Hold Us (Big Gigantic Remix)”

Most will admit that “Can’t Hold Us” is one of the best singles of the year but it has been aggressively overplayed. Well, here is a new version of the song – consider it the rebirth. The remix that originally got me hooked on Big Gigantic was his remix of Aloe Blacc’s “Need a Dollar” and he hasn’t really let me down since. However, this one really got me going because “Can’t Hold Us” was a motivator that started to lose it’s power thanks to the radio.

To Wind The Night Down: The Sweet Remains – “Barrelman”

Last week I came across an intriguing band that I had never previously heard. That band, comprised of three singer-songwrites from every corner of the country (literally: NYC, Vermont and Arizona), is known as The Sweet Remains. They are known for sweet-sounding folk tunes that are unique because of the three part melodies they thrive on. I was going to provide a link to the studio version of “Barrelman” but after hearing some of their live performances like this one, I realized that would have been a waste. You’ll find that The Sweet Remains has plenty more great songs like this so definitely check out their newest album, North & Prospect, from which “Barrelman” comes.
