NJ Riot Interviews: Jake Pepe

As we follow the New Jersey Riot 2016 team, and update you on their first hand experiences at camps, tournaments, and other events in the club lacrosse scene, we will also introduce you to some of their players via interviews. We want to know how potential college players think nowadays, and there is no better way to get informed than by talking to the players of today!

First up was NJ Riot 2016 Goalie, Wesley Moshier. Next up is his Riot teammate, Jake Pepe.

What made you want to play lacrosse outside of school? Why play for the Riot?

I wanted to play Lacrosse outside to school because our High school program is not very good and I wanted to play with a more competitive team.  The reason I am playing for Riot is because of Mr. Lee Southern, who first invited me to play for him and he his a great motivator!  I want to win for him!

What recruiting camps are you going to this Summer? Why did you choose those camps?

I went to the Fabulous Frosh Showcase and  Blue Chip 225, because they were the only ones my Mom signed me up for. I want to go the Jake Reed Nike Blue Chip.

What off field commitments do you make for Lacrosse? Outside of practice, games?

I go to Pro Activity, to get in shape. I shoot all the time and go to clinics, and play wall ball as much as I can.

What do you think your strongest Lacrosse trait is right now?

I feel my strongest lacrosse traits are my movement off ball, the power behind my shot, and my speed on the field.

Which area of your game do you want to work on most?

The area of my game that I feel I need to improve most dodging from the top of the restraining box.

What type of charity or giving back to Lacrosse do you do?

I go back to my youth team and help coach the younger kids, I work with Special Olympics, and I support the HEADstrong Foundation, and am always willing to go throw with anyone who thinks they want to play lax.

What kind of Stick do you use? Do you string your own sticks? If not, who does?

The 2 types of sticks that I use are first a Warrior shaft with an STX Stallion Head that is strung by Evan at Universal lacrosse. The second stick is a STK shaft and a STK Super Power head strung by Evan too.

Have you always played your current position?

I have always mostly played midfield and faceoff.  But when needed I have played LSM and attack.

What Colleges are you interested in?

My dream school is UNC; my second dream school is Notre Dame.  The other schools that I am interested in are Maryland, Loyola, Salisbury, St John, Fairfield, Penn State, and Villanova, Ohio State.

Who is your biggest Lacrosse influence?

The biggest lacrosse influence is Kyle Harrison, because of his relentless drive and determination on the field; he is always looking to improve his game.

How about your biggest off field influence?

My biggest off field influence is my family.  They are always giving me the support and confidence I need to be the best I can be.

Who is your favorite Pro Athlete and why?

My favorite pro athlete is Adrian Peterson, because of his amazing athletic ability.

How often do you practice in off season?

I practice every day!

What does lacrosse mean to you?

Lacrosse defines me.   I feel like I am free on the field that I am one with my stick and my shot.  I can let it all out in sports, it helps clear my head and stay focused.

If you could ask one person (within lacrosse, or not) one question, who would it be, and what would you ask them?

I would ask God, What is the secret to life and happiness!
