Protecting Your Stick

Understanding stick protection is key to playing lacrosse but especially as an attackman. It’s all about keeping your body between the defensemen and your stick.

As seen in the video above, I close my shoulders to my defensemen and use my left arm as an extension of my shoulder to disrupt checks.

My right hand is at the throat of my stick and I want to keep the stick head near my right armpit while keeping the shaft vertical. A key to stick protection is dodging North-South towards the goal.

This keeps the defensemen focusing on his feet and balance rather than teeing up checks.
