The GREAT Life: Attitude, Part 2

GREAT morning, all! I’m not sure how driving is where you are. Driving in Miami can be one of the most frustrating things in my day to day life. Having said that, of all the things that could be frustrating in life, if that is one of the biggest, then I am doing just fine! As I mentioned yesterday, I’m “too blessed to be stressed.”

But I use driving here as an exercise in patience. The general protocol in Miami seems to be beep first and ask questions never. And as frustrating as this practice and others are I realize that I’ve been there. I’ve been the guy that needed to go to the bathroom and was in a rush. Or the guy that was late to a meeting. Or the guy that was frustrated with something else in life, and didn’t care to be bothered with other people’s driving hangups.

I’ve been the guy that forgot to check my blind spot, or that didn’t notice the car from 2 lanes over that was trying to merge just like I was. I’ve even been the guy that didn’t realize my turn or my exit was coming up, and had to make some quick decisions and moves. I’ve been there. We all have. And while it doesn’t excuse what someone else has done, it does us no good to get riled up about it. In fact, it’s probably to our benefit, to recognize that they too may have made a mistake or had something else going on in their head that took away their focus.

And such is life.

I’ve found that people rarely are purposely disruptive to our lives. Nobody is out to get us. But they are sometimes careless, just like us. Perhaps George Washington Carver said it best. “How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these.”

Life is 10% what happens and 90% how we react to it. Our positive attitude shouldn’t stop with how we approach the day, and our work. It should carry over into how we deal with others!

Make it a GREAT one!
be easy
God bless.
