Tie Up Tuesday: Zack Dorn – World’s Fastest Shot

Editor’s Note: Welcome to our new weekly series, Tuesday Tie Up! Each week, we will have a different lacrosse pro or personality talking about how they string up their head, and each post is brought to you by Epoch Lacrosse. Some of the pros will be stringing the Hawk head, and others will be stringing up their head of choice with Epoch’s Otter Mesh. Either way, you get to see how the big guns string their heads. You’re sure to learn a thing or two, so pay attention! We’ll let Epoch take it from here…

Mr. 116 himself, Zack Dorn, the official world record holder for the fastest lacrosse shot, walked into Studio 22 to tie up The Hawk with a fresh slice of Otter Mesh.

Zack Dorn, who is an Epoch Endorsed Athlete and is known for the shot heard around the lacrosse world, holds the World’s Fastest Lacrosse Shot at 116 mph. This was achieved during halftime at the 2014 Major League Lacrosse All-Star Game in Boston, MA, and the record still stands in the Guinness Book of World Records!

Zack visited Studio 22 from his stomping grounds in Chicago, IL, to show us his current pocket set-up. Zack fell in love with Otter Mesh well before he achieved the World’s Fastest Shot, but now it’s a must in all of his sticks.

He has had plenty of time to master his stringing style while working at The Lax Shop in Chicago.

Zack’s pocket is a hybrid between field and box and uses a color theme for this Tie Up that pays tribute to the Chicago flag.

The top string is tied to the second hole down to help create a high channel. As you can see, Zack’s pocket utilizes The Hawk’s high pocket design.

Zack also only uses two shooters for his pocket. He has one shooter straight across and one U. As you look close you can see that Zack uses the infamous Ryan Hurley “Princess Leia Knot” for all of his knots.

As Zack finishes his Tie Up he puts in the same bottom string that he learned from fellow Epoch athlete, Ty Thompson. Be sure to comment below if you would like to try out this pattern or have any ideas for your own unique pattern for The Hawk.
