Utah High School Lacrosse Gets Sanctioned

Breaking lacrosse news from West of the Mississippi: the Utah High School Athletics Association voted to sanction boys and girls lacrosse today! This is another big milestone for the growth of the game out West, and if neighboring States want to follow suit we suggest they call on the folks in Utah for guidance.

Utah High School Lacrosse Gets Sanctioned

Here’s the full press release from the UHSAA:

Utah High School Activities Association Votes to Sanction Lacrosse

May 4, 2017 – The Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) Board of Trustees approved a motion on Thursday to make boys and girls lacrosse a sanctioned sport with overwhelming approval.

We’re thrilled this has come to fruition. If you look at every state where lacrosse has been sanctioned, the sport has grown.

– Craig Morris, who along with Renee Tribe, Brae Burbidge and Brian Barnhill, have spent the last 2 years working with the UHSAA

It is anticipated that sanctioned play will begin in the 2019-20 season which will coincide with the next round of high school alignment proposals. The timeline will also give schools time to prepare to field teams.

The support of the UHSAA was great today, now we roll up our sleeves as a community and help our school administrators.

– Brae Burbidge

With the announcement, the chapter continues to encourage high school programs to work in a positive manner with school administrations and all those involved in the community.

We applaud the UHSAA for recognizing the number of schools and student-athletes that are participating in lacrosse. Lacrosse isn’t going away. This is a big win for the students who can participate in education-based activities.

– Renee Tribe

For those unfamiliar with the 45th State in the U.S., here’s your Wikipedia refresher:

Utah is a western U.S. state defined by its vast expanses of desert and the Wasatch Range mountains. Salt Lake City, the capital, is centered around Temple Square, headquarters of the Mormon Church and site of its majestic temple and tabernacle, with its massive dome and renowned choir. The Great Salt Lake’s buoyant waters attract swimmers and sunbathers, especially at Antelope Island State Park.

Translation: It’s beautiful in Utah, and once you visit you’ll probably never leave. We all know what happened to the Holman family!

Congratulations goes out to Tribe, Burbidge, Barnhill and of course, the entire lacrosse community in the Beehive State.
