Syracuse pulled off a rare full field hidden ball trick against Virginia on Sunday, and if I’m being totally honest here, I have never seen anything quite like it in the world of lacrosse!

Sure, I’ve seen some unreal hidden ball tricks in my day. I’ve done a couple myself, seen two brothers pull one off, and have seen a bunch in high school, college, and pro games. But I’ve never seen a hidden ball trick that started off a save in a team’s defensive end. THAT is completely new!

Watch the below video, and try to pick up on what happens!

Did you catch that? If not, watch it again!

The Syracuse goalie, Bobby Wardwell, makes a save, gives up a rebound, and the defender, Brandon Mullins, scoops up the GB and drops the ball back into the keeper’s stick… or does he? He doesn’t!

Mullins only acts like he has dropped the ball in the Wardwell’s stick, and instead, he jogs off merrily, as the UVa attack focuses on the goalie. Wardwell does a great job of keeping the UVa riding players engaged, and while a part of me can’t believe they fell for it, another part of me also fell for it even though I knew what was coming… so I really can’t judge those guys too harshly.

All in all, it was simply a really well executed full field hidden ball trick, and it ended up in a relatively easy goal for Syracuse’s Kevin Rice on the other end. Who doesn’t love a good hidden ball trick?!?!?
