Webber Looks GOOD: NAIA Lacrosse All Stars Coaches Poll

The NAIA has been growing for number of years now but there as always been one consistent road bump for the teams involved, being the lack of national coverage. The league currently only offers one ranking system which features a rating committee comprised of eight raters; two raters per conference/group. All of these rankings are handled on an NAIA level and release publicly every other week compared to once a week.

We decided we would take this into our own hands and contact every NAIA coach directly to get their thoughts on the top ten on a week-to-week basis. This way we can get a better understanding of what coaches across the league value in a national title caliber team and see how their thoughts relate to the NAIA polls.

Here is our fourth Lacrosse All Stars NAIA Coaches’ Poll of the 2023 season.

Lacrosse All Stars NAIA Coaches’ Poll

Poll Methodology

Every coach in the NAIA was sent a poll early Monday morning and was given twenty-four hours to provide their top ten rankings. It was as simple as ranking teams one through ten. With this data, we then were able to tally the votes via a point system and comprise the final rankings which you see below.

How do these results compare the official NAIA rankings?

NAIA Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Poll

Poll Methodology

  • The rating committee is comprised of eight raters – two raters per conference/group.
  • Each conference/group produces a conference rating from which raters will use to compile their national ballot. Only teams represented on the conference rating are eligible for the national ballot.
  • Each rater will submit a top 15 ballot, which will be used to produce the Top 10 national rating and a list of other teams receiving votes.
  1. Reinhardt
  2. Indiana Tech
  3. Cumberlands
  4. Aquinas
  5. St. Ambrose

What Does This Tell Us?

Webber Lacrosse Stands Tall

Webber had a huge week finishing their lacrosse business trip up north 3-0 with two of those wins coming against WHAC opponents. In their first game against Madonna, Webber drifted away with the game after a competitive first quarter. Two days later, the Warriors would take on a ranked opponent in Aquinas and showed just how dominate they can be. The game was over at halftime where the Warriors established at 12-2 lead thanks to a 9-1 run in the second quarter. Their last game came against Thomas More where many players from Webber’s bench were able to touch the field for quality lacrosse minutes.

The main question after this past week is how far can Webber go? This team looks like they can compete with the best teams in the country and potentially for a national championship. Luckily, four of the top five teams in our Lacrosse All Stars Coaches Poll reside in the AAC so we should have more answers when these teams really dive into conference play.

What Happened to St. Ambrose?

After starting the season as the No.5 ranked team in the country, St. Ambrose appears to have lost a step following a successful 2022 season. In defense of the Fighting Bees, it is very difficult to start a season taking on the top three teams in the country for your first three games. Blowout losses against Reinhardt and Indiana Tech certainly aren’t shocking given both teams repertoire, and a close game against Cumberlands doesn’t look bad on the resume. The real level of concern comes from their most recent game where they only beat Taylor by a score of 9-7. Taylor historically has sat towards the bottom of the WHAC year over year.

What is going on with St. Ambrose where they are playing in close games with the bottom of the WHAC? I hope this team hasn’t become too discouraged with their first three losses of the year as there still is a lot of lacrosse left to be played.
