Season 2 of the Wood Shop Series is coming on March 6! So, in anticipation of the season premiere, lets take a look back at Season 1.
We were honored to have all sorts of guests from the world of lacrosse in the shop to bend some sticks and share some stories. Take a look at all the episodes below.
Episode 1: Chris Deal
“My guest in the woodshop today is Chris Deal. Chris is the String League Season 3 Champion and arguably one of the most dominant players to ever join the league. You probably know him by his Instagram tag, @Dealy44. He’s a stringer’s stringer, so if anybody out there is making pockets, they definitely know what Chris Deal is up to. Chris resides in Hawaii, but he has his roots in South Jersey and Philadelphia. So, while he was back on the mainland for LaxCon, I had him over to the shop to show the string league champion how to make a stick. Also, we let him get a little crazy and creative so we can give this stick away for all the LaxAllStars fans.”
Episode 2: Red Beard Lacrosse
Thanks for coming back to the wood shop! My guest in the shop today is Travis Sandin, also known as the man that puts the red beard in Red Beard Lacrosse. Watch as I teach him something about a craft I’ve grown to love, and he gives me his theory about string stringing for younger players.
Episode 3: Cruz World Customs
My guest in the wood shop today is Kacy from Cruz World Customs. Kacy is a true artist who uses his talent to customize equipment rather than a canvas. I feel like it’s a credit to lacrosse that there’s someone or there who applies this kind of passion in art to our sport. I had sent Kacy a stick a while ago and told him to do whatever project he’d been hoping to do in his free time. Most of the projects that come out of Cruz World are requests, so this is a special opportunity for him to make something that he wanted to make. I also wanted to show him how to bend a stick, and exchange some artistic ideas.
Episode 4: PJ Martin
My latest guest in the wood shop is PJ Martin, the founder of the Lasersharks Box Lacrosse Club, and one of the main guys behind UnCommon Fit and Tri-State Lacrosse. Through the Lasersharks, PJ started one of the most important teams in terms of growing the sport of box lacrosse in America. They often host teams of pros and semi pros, representing the US in tournaments such as the Ales Hrebesky Memorial in Prague.
Episode 5: Alex Turner
My guest in the wood shop today is Alex Turner. Alex is one of the first members of the new Philadelphia Wings Lacrosse organization. I thought it would be interesting to speak to him about what it’s like to be inside an NLL team as it was forming around him, and to welcome this Canadian to the city of Philadelphia, I thought I’d show him how to bend a stick.
Episode 6: Brett Manney
My guest in the wood shop today is none other than Brett Manney, the defenseman for the New England Black Wolves. Brett is a South Philly local who played for the Wings, and actually moved up to New England when the team was sold a couple years back. He’s also the Director of Showcase at NXT Sports which does events and tournaments all around the country. I had him at the shop at the crack of dawn so we had some coffee, bent and carved a few sticks, and talked about growing the game in the Philadelphia area.
